Education keeps moving in the technology direction. Teachers are finding new ways to teach lessons, provide reinforcement materials, and independent lessons for students through technology. I feel that voice thread would be a very useful tool for them to use. Teachers could record lessons/activities ahead of time and show them during class as well as provide parents the link so that their children can use it at home. If students are absent and miss a day or more this would be very helpful to them. They could sit and watch the lessons and activities and participate that way. Also if some students are having trouble with remembering how to do certain parts of the assignments they could go to the link provided and review the lesson.
This tool allows the teacher to show an understanding of technology, as well as provide a chance for the students to interact with the technology. Ways that this would demonstrate the five characteristics of meaningful learning is by providing chances for the students to work cooperatively, could allow the students to construct their own problems as well as work individually, and to reinforce information that they previously learned by interacting with the lessons or activities provided.
Voice thread could also be used as a storytelling device; I watched a thread of a monster animation telling a story of what was Little Red Riding Hood, but at the end claimed it was a different story. I feel this would be a great way to use with younger children such as Kindergarten aged children. This could allow them to view different stories as well as allow the teachers to do reading lessons with the class.
As teachers you have to assess the students’ progress throughout the year. Using voice thread, students will be able to complete lessons by using the doodle tools, and then the teachers will be able to see how the students work out problems or how they would approach them and this will help with the teacher’s assessment of lessons. I recently went through courses to where I had to observe classes as well as teach. With my lesson I did have to assess the students on the material that was just taught. If I had access to this tool I think that I would have been able to have present my lesson as well as assess the students in a more creative way.
I think as teachers you need to be able to access as much technology tools that you can. This allows you to be creative and present lessons in new and exciting ways! I know that when I do become a teacher in higher grades I will definitely use this to help my students, learn, interact with lessons, as well as assess them on materials that they have learned. I would strongly suggest this to others to use!
